The Human Rights Commission of Belize (HRCB) is a non-partisan, non-governmental membership organization. It was founded in 1987 on Human Rights Day in 1987 and legally incorporated and registered under the Companyís Act, chapter 250 of the Laws of Belize. The organization is governed by the HRCB Board of Directors which is responsible for determining and monitoring the strategic direction of the HRCB in accordance with the policies and directives adopted by the General Assembly members at its Annual General Meetings.

national education efforts on what human rights mean and why the respect and protection of human rights is an integral part of the democracy of our developing country. HRCB has played a critical role in educating the general public as well as specific professional groups (the Police, Magistrates, Justices of the Peace. Prison Officers)on knowing, applying and asserting human rights and HRCBís directors, staff and members have fearlessly worked with women, children, immigrants, refugees, indigenous persons, workers, persons with a disability, sexual minorities, prisoners, juvenile offenders and other persons in vulnerable populations. HRCB has consistently worked with national, regional and international counterparts in promoting human rights in Belize and internationally, including the Association of National Development Agencies (defunct), Commission for the Defense of Human Rights in Central America -C ODEHUCA, the Caribbean Human Rights Network and Amnesty International.Location map
