BASIC PURPOSE OF POSITION:Responsible for providing technical support of programmes and activities in areas relating to environmental and marine health, fisheries, waste management, coastal development, urbanization and tourism through the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of data; also, for conducting research on topics associated with the assigned area of responsibility to aid in the promotion and efficient management of Belize’s Blue Economy Sectors.NATURE AND SCOPE:The Blue Economy Officer – Environmental and Marine Health and Coastal Development is required to provide technical support services to the Planning and Policy Unit, in areas relating to environmental and marine health, fisheries, waste management, coastal development, urbanization and tourism in support of its programmes/projects and activities through the collection, analysis and dissemination of blue economy data. The incumbent also conducts research on a variety blue economy-related topics associated with the sector specific areas detailed above. The Blue Economy Officer – Environmental and Marine Health and Coastal Development supports the policy and planning team in undertaking baseline studies, tracking the indicators used for monitoring and evaluation of the assigned sectors. The incumbent is expected to possess good analytical, planning and networking skills; as well as strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills and must be able to interact productively with colleagues, senior and junior personnel within the Public Service, stakeholders, as well as representatives of outside agencies and organizations. Additionally, the incumbent is required to engage in collaborative research efforts with other agencies in the blue economy sectors as a whole, as well as write proposals for projects and assist in identifying possible sources of funding. The incumbent also oversees the development of blue economy resources including the development and maintenance of a comprehensive Blue Economy Information System, utilizing the stored data to produce policy decision-support information.
